It’s not often that you see an advert or an article about male liposuction in a magazine. This is because less than thirty percent of all liposuction procedures are carried out on men and studies have shown that, whilst more than one half of women say that they would consider liposuction under certain circumstances, the majority of men say that it is something they would never consider.
But why is this? Is it a matter of pride on men’s part, refusing to admit that they can’t lose weight by themselves, or is it simply that men are often much less concerned with their weight and their outward appearance?
Whatever the reason, there is no need for men to shy away from liposuction. Men can benefit from rapid weight loss just as much as women and those men that have undergone the procedure have enjoyed a high success rate. Thousands of men have actually chosen to undergo a liposuction procedure of some kind and have been very happy with the results, in fact liposuction for men in the United States is on the rise. Liposuction for men works in exactly the same way as it does for women and only a slight difference between male and female tissue needs to be considered by the surgeon.
Popular areas for male liposuction include the stomach (as with women), the lower back or lumbar area, upper back and shoulders, and the chest. Male breast liposuction is one of the most popular liposuction procedures for men because the chest area can be one of the hardest places to lose weight from. This is also one of the most unsightly areas for fat to build up in men and can be dangerous, being linked to serious heart conditions. Nobody likes having man-boobs (or moobs as they are sometimes called) and many men who consider liposuction to be an embarrassing procedure think that man-boobs are harder to live with than the embarrassment of having male liposuction. However, liposuction to reduce man-boobs is only an option if the excess tissue to be removed is comprised of fat. If the tissue is glandular then liposuction will not be an option and a hormonal treatment should be considered instead.
Male liposuction to remove ‘love handles’ is also becoming a popular procedure.
So what does male liposuction cost? Well, liposuction procedures are usually more costly for men than women but only by a small margin. This is for three simple reasons: Firstly, male tissue is slightly tougher and harder to remove. Men are also typically larger than women so the procedural area might be larger than it would be on a woman. Men also have a tendency to choose more difficult areas to remove fat from. As in all cases, the cost of liposuction surgery is derived of the area from which fat will be removed and also the size of that area.
