This article will focus on the exciting technique of plastic surgery called laser liposuction.
Click here for my last post, which is a brief explanation of traditional liposuction.
Laser liposuction surgery is a newer technique when compared to liposuction. It is also sometimes called SmartLipo. It is performed with local anesthesia with a small tube with a laser attached to it. The laser is used to “melt” the fat. Much of the bleeding and bruising by traditional liposuction is mitigated by using the laser as the surrounding tissue is largely unaffected. The recovery time is also significantly reduced, often only a couple of days. There is also no stitches required.
A significant advantage of laser liposuction is the tightening effect of the laser on the skin. Results are visible about three to 6 months after the procedure. It is caused by increased collagen production at the site where the laser was used. Because of the inherent tightening effect on the skin, surgeries on top of traditional liposuction are not needed to get rid of, or otherwise hide, the loose skin.
As with any medical procedure there is some risk. Only you and your doctor can assess these risks. In no way is this website a replacement for professional medical advice.
